15 Innovations Nominated for Award
Yesterday at the 2012 DevelopmentXChange hosted in Seattle, WA, the Saving Lives at Birth Partners nominated the following 15 innovations for award:
Seed Grants:
- Boston University: PharmaCheck: Counterfeit and Substandard Drug Detector Device for the Developing World
- Burnet Institute: Performance of an innovative, instrument-free, low-cost, rapid point-of-care CD4 test
- D-Rev: Design for the Other Ninety Percent: Comet: Effective, compact, and low-cost phototherapy to treat newborn jaundice
- HealthPartners: Mama Co-op
- Jacaranda Health: Postpartum empowerment: an integrated approach driving demand and delivery of high quality, low-cost postnatal services in Kenya
- Jhpiego Corporation (2 awards): Reinvigorating the Postpartum IUD Using a Low-Cost Simulation Modeland HemoGlobe: Revitalizing Maternal Anemia Prevention and Treatment Globally
- Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH): Strip test for glycated albumin screening
- NOvate Medical Technologies, LLC : SafeSnip is an obstetric device that cuts, clamps, and shields infants, mothers, and birthing personnel from infection
- RAND Corporation: Increasing healthy behaviors and use of reproductive health services through improved quality of care, novel incentives, information technology, and enhanced demand for health products
- The Research Foundation of the State University of New York: Waterless Hand Cleansing with Chlorhexidine: a Novel Approach to Prevent Neonatal Deaths
- University of Oxford: Development of a reectal antibiotic formulation for community based management of neonatal sepsis
Transition-to-Scale Grants:
- African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) Uganda: Saving mothers and babies with reliable solar power
- Jhpiego Corporation: Building and Sustaining Capacity of Frontline Health Workers in Prevention and Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage and Neonatal Asphyxia on the Day of Birth
- Rice University: Low-Cost Respiratory Support: Reducing Early Neonatal Death in Malawi
In addition, two other non-monetary awards were announced - the Peer Choice (selected by the innovators themselves) and the People's Choice Award (selected by online voters):
